Youth Congress workers staged a black flag protest when Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan arrived at Kovalam to inaugurate the Kerala-European Union Blue Economy Conclave on Friday (September 19, 2025).
The police arrested at least five activists and removed them from the spot. The Youth Congress has called for Statewide protests against the government, accusing it of using the police to target Opposition workers.
Moreover, the police action against protesting Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists in front of the Assembly complex on Thursday had angered them.
Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian, Kerala Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian and delegates from various European nations are attending the international conference.
The government had stated last week that the event would help the State prepare a roadmap for developing Kerala’s marine economy, including aquatic products processing, boat building and exploring the tourism possibilities of the State’s 640 km coastline and its maze of inland waterways.
