A woman sustained serious injuries after being stabbed by her 17-year-old daughter during a quarrel over excessive mobile phone use. The injured woman is a schoolteacher living on rent in Alappuzha Beach ward. Her daughter, a Plus One student, has been booked by the Alappuzha South police. The incident occurred at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
They reportedly had frequent quarrels over mobile phone usage. The previous day, the mother had hidden the phone charger, which led to an argument. On Wednesday morning, their pet dog urinated on the floor of the house. When the mother asked the daughter to clean it up, it allegedly provoked the attack. In a fit of rage, the girl stabbed her mother in the neck with a kitchen knife, the police said.
The woman, who sustained a deep wound in her neck, ran to a neighbour’s house seeking help. She collapsed on the neighbour’s veranda, unconscious, and bleeding heavily. A young man present immediately tied a cloth tightly around her neck to stem the bleeding. Her hair and face were also found to be slightly burnt.
The South police were informed immediately and they reached the spot, but it was not possible to take her to hospital in the police vehicle due to her condition. Later, an ambulance arrived and rushed her to Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha, where she underwent an emergency surgery. She is now in the Intensive Care Unit.
The student has been shifted to the government-run Sakhi shelter home. The police said that clear details of the incident would only be known once the woman recovers enough to give her statement.
