A 61-year-old woman died while trying to save her friend from electrocution at Pallipad near Haripad in Alappuzha on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Sarala of Pallipad. Her friend Sreelatha remains in critical condition. According to the Haripad police, the incident occurred at 11.30 a.m. when the women were working at Panamoottukadu paddy polder. Sreelatha came into contact with a severed stay wire of an electric post. Seeing this, Sarala rushed to help her but was electrocuted.
