The Akhila Kerala Vishwakarma Maha Sabha (AKVMS), an organisation representing craftsman communities comprising carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, coppersmiths and stonemasons, has rallied behind the United Democratic Front (UDF) ahead of the June 19 Assembly byelection in Nilambur.

They will support UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath, said AKVMS State general secretary Rajan Thottathil at Nilambur on Monday.

AKVMS decided to support the UDF following talks held with Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan and KPCC secretary K.P. Noushadali. Maha Sabha leaders declared their decision at the UDF office in Nilambur.

AKVMS has traditionally been supporting the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the State. The UDF is understood to have agreed to to their demands, including the community representation in the upcoming local body elections and inclusion of all Vishwakarma members in the Other Eligible Community (OEC) category.

Apart from Mr. Thottathil, district and local leaders Chandran Kondotty, Anil Edakkara, M.T. Subramaniam, Padma Sivan, Mini Santhosh and Prajeena were present. They claimed that they have about 16,000 votes in Nilambur.
