Vigilance raids house of Muslim League leader Shaheed Kayikkaran over corruption allegations

Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday raided the residence of Madayi grama panchayat president and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader Shaheed Kayikkaran in connection with allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income.

The raid, led by a team from the Kozhikode Vigilance Special Cell, began at 6 a.m. at his house at Matool North and went on till evening. The team was headed by Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.SP) V. Suresh and A.R. Ramesh. The raid follows a preliminary investigation based on a complaint against Mr. Kayikkaran.

Documents collected

Sources said the officials had collected crucial documents and other materials linked to the ongoing probe. However, no official details were released by the investigating team.

Mr. Kayikkaran also serves as the chairman of Puthiyangadi Jamaat Higher Secondary School and Puthiyangadi High School.

Allegations have been raised over the collection of rent of the buildings owned by the Madayi grama panchayat. There have also been allegations of corruption during his tenure as standing committee member of the local body and also in various appointments to the local body. The current investigation reportedly focusses on these irregularities.
