Vibrant rally, meeting mark Children’s Day fete in Thiruvananthapuram

Children march as part of the annual Children’s Day rally from University Stadium to Nishagandhi auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. The rally was organised by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare.

A colourful rally and a public meeting at Kanakakkunnu Palace marked the Children’s Day celebrations organised by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare here on Friday.

Hundreds of schoolchildren took part in the rally that was a mirror of the State’s rich culture. The rally was flagged off by council general secretary G.L. Arun Gopi at University Stadium.

Children in roller skates, Mounted Police personnel, along with ‘children’s prime minister’ Durga Jishnu, ‘president’ Aradhana Praveen, ‘speaker’ Angel S., Prayag M. and Nivedya A.L. who spoke at the public meeting, were in an open jeep in the front of the rally that concluded at Kanakakkunnu.

Durga Jishnu inaugurated the public meeting. Angel S. delivered the keynote address, presided over by Aradhana Praveen. Devanand of Christ Nagar school sang the welcome song.

Minister for Women and Child Development Veena George, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and V. Joy, MLA, attended the function.

Ms. Vijayalakshmi rendered some of her favourite songs to loud applause.

Ms. George released the Children’s Day stamp by handing it over to Mr. Joy. A painting by Vygha V.K. of Government Ganapat Vocational Higher Secondary School, Feroke, Kozhikode, was selected for the Children’s Day stamp for 2025-26.
