Uplifting the extremely poor into the mainstream is the main objective of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, Minister for Water Resources Roshy Augustine has said.

Inaugurating the Vellappally bridge connecting Sea View and Powerhouse wards in Alappuzha municipality on Sunday, Mr. Augustine said that the government had been systematically working to identify those in need of land, housing, food, and continued medical care and to provide them with the necessary assistance. The Minister said that Kerala would be able to achieve this goal by November 1.

The Vellappally bridge, built at a cost of ₹3 crore, connects the Sea View and Power House wards. Designed not to obstruct water transport, the bridge has a carriageway width of 7.5 metres and a total length of 15.65 metres, including walkways on both sides.
