Vedan moves Kerala HC, seeking modification of anticipatory bail conditions

The Kerala High Court has sought the State government’s stance on a plea by Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali, aka Vedan, who sought modification of the conditions imposed by the Sessions Court while granting him anticipatory bail in a sexual assault case.

As per the bail condition, he cannot leave the State without the court’s permission and he has to appear before the investigating officer every Sunday. Vedan approached the High Court seeking modification of the conditions, citing stage shows to be held in a few foreign countries in December. He contended that such shows were his sole source of livelihood and that modification of the conditions would not affect the probe.

He had been charged with sexual assault of a research scholar in Dalit music, at his apartment in Kochi. The matter has been posted for hearing next week.

In another petition before the High Court, the complainant challenged a notice of appearance issued to her by the Ernakulam Central Police. The proceedings in her plea were closed after the prosecutor submitted that the notice has been withdrawn.
