Various events mark 79th Independence Day in Alappuzha

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across the district on Friday with a series of programmes and events. Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian hoisted the national flag at Alappuzha Recreation ground in the morning and inspected the parade.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Cherian urged people to remain vigilant against divisive forces. He said that India’s independence was not just political freedom but also a proclamation of social justice.

The Minister said that Kerala stood as a model for the nation in multiple sectors, including education, health, tourism, and fisheries. “God’s Own Country, Kerala, has secured a prominent place on the country’s tourism map. Likewise, the world has taken note of our achievements in the health sector. Our educated society makes significant contributions to the nation’s progress,” Mr. Cherian said.

H. Salam, MLA, District Collector Alex Varghese, District Police Chief M.P. Mohanachandran, Alappuzha municipal chairperson K.K. Jayamma and others attended the function.

At NTPC Kayamkulam

Elsewhere, NTPC Kayamkulam marked the occasion with a flag-hoisting ceremony. Debdutta Sinha, head of project, NTPC Kayamkulam, unfurled the national flag.

The Mavelikara Sub Regional Transport Office celebrated Independence Day on Friday. Assistant District Insurance Officer H. Roopesh hoisted the national flag.

As part of the celebrations, the 11 (K) Battalion, NCC, Alappuzha, organised a ‘Barefoot Run’ for cadets on the Alappuzha beach. Around 150 cadets from various institutions under NCC Group Kollam took part in the event.
