Thrissur District Congress Committee (DCC) president Joseph Tajet on Sunday (August 17, 2025) hits back at Union Minister and Thrissur MP Suresh Gopi, saying his remarks on the voters’ list controversy were nothing but “an insult to the people of Thrissur.”

Reacting to the Minister’s comment that “a few monkeys have jumped out raising allegations,” Mr. Tajet said, “Those words were spoken while looking into the mirror. His first response after so many days of silence has sadly been to humiliate the very people of Thrissur whom he represents.”

He accused Mr. Gopi of resorting to abusive language out of frustration after being exposed. “What he said reflects his culture, not ours. We cannot stoop to that level in our response. We raised genuine concerns about the irregularities in the voters’ list carried out by him and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As the MP of Thrissur, he must give an answer to these allegations directly. Passing the buck to the Election Commission or the Supreme Court only confirms the charges against him,” Mr. Tajet added.

The DCC chief demanded that the Minister come clean before the people of Thrissur and admit to the “manipulations” carried out in the voters’ list ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
