UDF took ‘anti-Kerala’ stand to favour BJP, says Pinarayi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has accused the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) of aligning with the “anti-Kerala” stand taken by the BJP.

He was addressing a public rally to mark the fourth anniversary of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the State, at the Kozhikode beach on Tuesday.

Mr. Vijayan said that when the LDF government relaunched the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) to take up development projects, the Centre had tried to obstruct its work. He alleged that the UDF took a stand in favour of it. “It is natural for the BJP to have a disinterest in Kerala. That party will not stand with the people here. But it was strange for the Congress to take an anti-Kerala stand. There is no justification for that,” he said.

Mr. Vijayan also alleged that Kerala had spent ₹5,600 crore for releasing compensation for people who gave away their land for the widening of the national highway in the State. He said that the UDF had not made any headway in acquiring land for the project when it was in power. The LDF had to pay a price for the UDF’s administrative lapses, he said. The Chief Minister also highlighted the advancements made by the State in health, education and social development sectors. Ministers, LDF leaders, and people’s representatives were present.
