The prolonged indecision within the United Democratic Front over seat sharing in the district panchayat and civic bodies in Pathanamthitta is finally nearing resolution.
According to sources, the party has broken the deadlock arising from competing claims by various groups by finalising power sharing arrangements spanning up to three terms. As per the agreement, Deenamma Roy, a member from the Pramadam division, will serve as president of the Pathanamthitta District panchayat for the first two years. The remaining three years will be shared equally between M.V. Ambili and Neethu Mamman Kondoor.
Similarly, Anish Varikkannamala will serve as vice president for the first three years, while Kerala Congress leader Sam Eeppan will hold the post for the remaining two years.
In Adoor municipality, Congress leader Reena Samuel will take over as chairperson for the first two years, after which the remaining term will be shared between Jyothi Surendran and Preethu Jagathy. Sasikumar will serve as vice chairperson during the first term.
In Thiruvalla municipality, Kerala Congress leader S. Lekha will be the chairperson, while the Congress has proposed K.V. Varghese for the vice chairperson’s post. In the second term, Saramma Francis will take over as vice chairperson.
In Pathanamthitta municipality, Sindhu Anil will serve as chairperson for the first two years, followed by Geetha Suresh for one year. Ambika Venu will hold the post during the final two years. Muslim League leader A. Sagheer will serve as vice chairperson for the first two-and-a-half years, after which the remaining term will be shared between Congress leaders Saji K. Simon and Abel Mathew.
Similar power sharing arrangements have been finalised in block panchayats as well.
