Two siblings were injured when an improvised crude explosive, locally known as ‘pannippadakkam,’ went off at Puthunagaram near here on Thursday.
Shareef and his sister, Shahana, from Mangode Lakshamveedu Colony were admitted to the government district hospital here. Shareef, who suffered serious burns, was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital at Thrissur.
The police started an investigation into the incident. The police said that Shareef used to hunt wild boars by using explosives.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), meanwhile, accused the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) of involvement in the blast. The SDPI denied the BJP claims saying that Shareef had been expelled from the party two years ago.
Meanwhile, three accused held in connection with the seizure of explosives from a house at Kallekkad near here were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
Suresh Kumar, 40, Noushad, 35, and Fasil, 25, were remanded by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Pattambi.
Explosives were seized from the house of Suresh, who is alleged to be a BJP worker. The police have stepped up the investigation into the suspected involvement of the trio in a blast that took place at Vyasa Vidya Peethom primary school here on August 20.
