The Fort police arrested two people on Friday in connection with a job fraud in which they allegedly promised positions in the Secretariat and swindled large sums of money from jobseekers.
The accused, identified as Anil Babu of Aruvikkara and Krishnan of Poonthura, were apprehended based on a complaint lodged by a Poonthura resident. The duo posed as high-ranking government officials, with one even claiming to be an Under Secretary at the Secretariat, to gain the trust of their victims.
Preliminary probe indicated that the accused collected nearly ₹25 lakh from four persons after providing them false promises of jobs. Further investigation is underway to identify if more persons are involved in the racket, the police said.
