The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) State leadership has lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner, objecting to Independent candidate P.V. Anvar’s unauthorised use of the party’s name, flags, symbols, and national leaders’ images in the Nilambur Assembly byelection.

In a complaint filed on Monday, AITC State vice-president Lisy Elizabeth and general secretaries Eldo Abraham and M.K. Ali pointed out that Mr. Anvar was flagrantly violating the election rules by using the name of Trinamool Congress.

“The nomination submitted by Mr. Anvar as an AITC candidate has been rejected. He is contesting the election as an Independent without the knowledge or support of the AITC State or national leaderships,” they said.

They demanded that the Election Commission prevent Mr. Anvar from using the Trinamool flags and symbols during the ongoing campaign and confiscate them.

“Mr. Anvar’s use of the party name and its flags is creating confusion among the voters about the role of the AITC in the Nilambur byelection,” they said.

They also said that the party did not have official positions like coordinator or chief coordinator as claimed by Mr. Anvar.
