For every couple, the dream of parenthood is precious. But for many who wait for years without success, infertility clinics become their last hope. Now, Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital has emerged as a ray of hope for many, thanks to its newly launched state-of-the-art fertility clinic with IVF facilities, marking a significant leap in infertility treatment in Kerala’s government sector.
Though the MCH has been running a fertility clinic since 2014, IVF services were not available. That changed in July this year when a modern IVF clinic began functioning at the MCH, making it the third government medical college in the State, after Kottayam and Kozhikode, to offer such advanced care.
“We aim to provide treatment at a fraction of the cost charged by private hospitals,” says A.V. Deepak, Professor of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. “In the future, we also plan to grow into a full-fledged Department of Reproductive Medicine.”
The clinic now offers comprehensive services, including infertility evaluation, semen analysis, IUI, IVF, and ICSI, along with plans for a dedicated operation theatre for keyhole surgeries.
The charges reflect the government’s mission to keep treatment accessible. Registration is done at just ₹200, follicular study at ₹400 (and ₹50 for follow-ups), IUI at ₹1,000 (₹1,500 with donor), and laparoscopic procedures at ₹5,000. IVF is offered at ₹60,000—much lower than that charged by private hospitals.
OP services are available from Monday to Saturday, with new registrations every Wednesday. Counselling and ethical standards form an integral part of the process.
A dedicated team of three doctors, a staff nurse, lab technician, multipurpose worker, and counter staff runs the clinic. In just two months since opening, nearly 90 couples from within and outside the State have already sought treatment here—showing the growing trust and hope this facility inspires.
