Three youngsters who were out on the national highway performing stunts using their heavily altered premium motorcycles, taking advantage of the national strike, were booked by the Motor Vehicles department at Choornikkara near Aluva on Wednesday.

When an enforcement team waved them down, they ignored it and zig-zagged their way but not before poking fun at the officers. However, the officers had caught their vehicles on camera. Based on the registration numbers, they contacted the registration owners and asked them to produce the vehicles.

“The motorcycles were heavily altered. The silencers were altered, causing loud noise, while mirrors and huggers were missing, and the registration numbers were displayed only on one side. The vehicles also did not have insurance,” said Jinson Xavier Paul, Motor Vehicle Inspector. Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector R. Chanthu was also part of the enforcement team.

They were booked on charges including rash and negligent driving endangering the public and driving vehicles without insurance. On the direction of the Enforcement Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) K. Manoj, steps have also been initiated to suspend the driving licences of the youths and registration certificates of their vehicles.
