Thiruvananthapuram MCH reaches a milestone, celebrating platinum jubilee

The State’s first-ever medical college, Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, entered its 75th year on November 27, Thursday.

The platinum jubilee celebrations were organised on the medical college premises. Established in 1951, the medical college has grown into one of the leading medical education and treatment institutions in the country. Doctors who came through the portals of this institution are now working in many global destinations.

On an average, at least 8,000 people seek treatment at the various outpatient clinics in Thiruvananthapuram MCH, while about 500 in-patient admissions are made on a daily basis. In addition to the MBBS course, which admits 250 students, 24 specialties and 16 super specialties are functioning here.

The institution is going through a rapid development phase and the second phase of the ₹717.29-crore master plan is in progress, Health Minister Veena George said. She congratulated all doctors and personnel who have been part of the 75-year-long journey of the institution

New departments of critical care, genetics, fetal medicine, paediatric gastroenterology, geriatrics, interventional radiology and rheumatology departments have been launched at the MCH, she added.
