Tesla, the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle manufacturer, marked its entry in the Indian market on Tuesday, by opening its first showroom in Mumbai. Located in Maker Maxity mall at the Bandra Kurla Complex, the city’s leading commercial business district, the company has also set up a service centre and warehouse around six kilometres away from the showroom.
In the United States, the long-range RWD version of the car starts from $37,490 or approximately Rs 32,18,900, which is almost half the price of the Indian variant. This might be because Tesla might be incurring a hefty 70 per cent import duty. However, this might eventually decrease if the company plans to locally assemble its cars in the country.
Speculations also suggest that Tesla is planning to open its next store in Delhi, but currently, there are no details on when that might happen.
