Suspected ganja, MDMA seized in Kochi

A special squad of the Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent and the Thadiyittaparambu Police arrested two persons allegedly with five kilograms of ganja.

The arrested were identified as Rabin Mandal, 24, and Ashis Sarkar, 32, of Murshidabad in West Bengal. A tip-off received by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha led to the arrests.

The police intercepted Ashis while he was allegedly handing over suspected ganja near Aluva NDA. Earlier, the police had arrested Rabin, alias Robin Bhai, with 9.50 kilograms of ganja from Bengal Colony in March. He had been released from jail only one and a half months ago.

Since then, he had been under surveillance following information that he was back in the ganja business. His clients included both youngsters and migrant workers.

Over 2 grams of ‘MDMA’

In another case, two persons were arrested allegedly with ganja and MDMA from an apartment at Thammanam. S. Hemanth, 21, of Punalur, was arrested with 1.39 kilograms of suspected ganja. Akshay Reji, 21, of Wayanad, was arrested with 2.21 grams of suspected MDMA and 99.20 grams of suspected ganja. The raid was conducted by the Kochi City District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and the Palarivattom police.
