Sumesh Achuthan is IFFCO director

Chittur-Thattamangalam municipal chairperson Sumesh Achuthan was elected director of the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), one of the largest cooperative movements in the world.

Mr. Achuthan will represent Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions in the 21-member IFFCO director board.

With 36,000 cooperative societies under it, the IFFCO is the largest cooperative fertilizer producer in the country. It reaches out to 5.5 crore farmers in the country with fertilizers through cooperative bodies.

Prior to Mr. Achuthan, P.P. Thankachan and Jose Kuttyani were the only representatives from Kerala to serve on the IFFCO board of directors.

Mr. Achuthan contested the IFFCO election as the Thattamangalam Service Cooperative Bank’s representative from Palakkad district.
