The Devikulam Subcollector on Thursday issued a conditional order suspending the functioning of the toll plaza at Devikulam on the Munnar-Bodimettu stretch of the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway.
According to officials, the toll plaza authorities have blocked the emergency lane used by vehicles such as ambulances and fire engines and no employee was present to open it for such vehicles. Considering the violations, the functioning of the toll plaza will be suspended until the block is removed.
A hearing for the toll plaza authorities will be held at the Subcollector’s office on July 2. If the authorities fail to attend the hearing, an order for permanent shutdown of the plaza will be issued.
According to officials, the toll plaza at Lockhart, near Devikulam, the first in Idukki, started operations on October 4, 2024.
