State Information Commissioner M. Sreekumar has warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against officials who fail to respond to Right to Information (RTI) applications within the stipulated time. He was speaking after a hearing session held at the Thrissur Collectorate on Thursday.

Dr. Sreekumar said though most officials responded promptly and transparently to RTI applications, a small section still showed negligence in giving timely replies. Such lapses would not be tolerated, he cautioned. Officials had been directed to treat RTI applications with utmost seriousness and ensure complete and clear responses within the mandated time.

During the hearing chaired by Dr. Sreekumar at the Collectorate’s videoconference hall, 32 of the 33 appeals considered were settled. One appeal was deferred to the next sitting as the officials concerned failed to appear.

The two-day hearing reviewed appeals related to the Local Self-Government department, Police, Education, and Revenue departments.
