Stop memo served on auditorium owner

Kerala

The Revenue department has issued a stop memo to the owner of an auditorium at Sarovaram for allegedly attempting to fill land that falls within the Kottooli Wetlands using concrete grout. The action follows a complaint filed by the Vazhathuruthy Residents Association and the Sarovaram Prakrithi Samrakshana Samithi on Friday (June 20).

However, as there was no immediate response from the department, members of both groups set up tents at the site and kept vigil through the night to prevent further damage. However, they were reportedly attacked by a group of miscreants early on Saturday morning (June 21). The attackers reportedly fled before the police arrived around 2 a.m.

The Samithi workers met with the Deputy Collector (LR) P.N. Purushothaman, based on which the stop memo was issued on Saturday.

Ten truckloads of concrete were reportedly dumped on the auditorium premises on Friday afternoon. The Kerala High Court had earlier directed the Corporation to exercise its discretion in granting permission to hold events at the venue.
