Steps such as capital dredging, the initial excavation of underwater soil for the deepening of waterways, will be taken up soon as part of speeding up development works at the Beypore port in Kozhikode.
This was decided at a high-level meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday (July 17). A release said that the Kerala State Maritime Board was asked to clear the drainage system at the port to address waterlogging on the premises. The officials were asked to submit a report for administrative approval on whether the existing system needs to be expanded. The environmental impact assessment report will soon be made available ahead of taking up dredging of the water channel. The board was also asked to submit a proposal to construct a new wharf at the port.
Minister for Ports V.N. Vasavan and Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas, and senior officials attended the meeting.
