The State government has sanctioned ₹124.63 crore more towards the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhati (KASP) and Karunya Benevolent Fund (KBF).
Of the total allocation, ₹75.66 crore is towards the KASP for distributing among hospitals which provided free treatment to patients and ₹49.3 crore towards the KBF, which is being implemented by the State Lotteries department. The amounts were disbursed through the State Health Agency.
A statement issued by Health Minister Veena George on Tuesday claimed that in the last five years, the State had provided free medical care amounting to ₹7,708 crore to 25.17 lakh people.
Under the KASP, 24.06 lakh people were given free treatment amounting to ₹7,163 crore and through the KBF, 64,075 people were given free medical treatment amounting to ₹544 crore.
A total of 43.07 lakh families in the State are covered under the KASP, whereas families who are not covered under the KASP yet and have an annual income less than ₹3 lakh are provided one-time financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for medical treatment under the KBF.
