Sreenivasan: Kerala bids farewell to a legend

Hundreds of people, including actors, friends, politicians and members of the public, thronged the residence of actor, screenwriter and filmmaker Sreenivasan in Kandanad, Kochi, to pay their last respects. People continued to arrive in large numbers, mourning the veteran actor’s passing. His mortal remains were kept at his residence at the family’s request to allow relatives and well-wishers to bid him a final farewell.

Early in the morning, actor Surya had arrived to pay his respects. “I have been a big fan of Sreenivasan sir and have closely followed his work. I heard the news while I was in Kochi, and it was deeply saddening. I wanted to come and see him. His writings and body of work will remain etched in everyone’s hearts. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Members of the film fraternity who visited included Parvathy Thiruvothu, Renji Panicker, Sathyan Anthikkad, Jagadish, Prithviraj Sukumaran, among others.

Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday, sending waves of grief across the film industry, following which almost the entire Malayalam film industry. His mortal remains were kept at Town Hall for public homage on Saturday, with members of the film fraternity turning out to pay their respects.

Sreenivasan is survived by his wife Vimala and sons Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan.
