Speedy decisions need of the hour: Kerala Chief Minister

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday called for speedy decisions at the government level for ensuring the comprehensive development of the State.

Mr. Vijayan was addressing a regional-level review meeting on the development projects in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts here on Thursday. The real success, Mr. Vijayan said, lay in completely doing away with red tape in governance.

The meeting, attended by Ministers, department officials, elected representatives and district-level officials from the three districts, examined issues and problems related to ongoing projects. It also examined the overall progress in different sectors. The District Collectors presented 20 prominent issues from the three districts.

Capital district

In Thiruvananthapuram district, officials have been instructed to speed up measures for breaking the sandbar at Muthalapozhi for ensuring safe passage to fishing vessels. A decision was taken to speed up the construction of flats for the rehabilitation of families included in the Rajaji Nagar Rehabilitation scheme. Decisions pertaining to road projects, including the Outer Ring Road, were also taken at the meeting. A new project will be launched for constructing high fences along the Parvathy Puthanar to prevent the illegal dumping of waste.

The meeting reviewed the progress of various infrastructure projects, including road and bridge projects, in Pathanamthitta district. Issues related to the shortage of space at the General Hospital at Adoor, construction of the Taluk Hospital at Ranni, hospital at Nilackal and the construction of the Knowledge Village in Ranni were discussed at the meeting.

Projects in Kollam

Mr. Vijayan instructed officials to speed up the process of acquiring land adjacent to the Kerala Minerals and Metals at Chavara, Kollam district. Acquisition of land for the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) rural household tap connectivity scheme, construction and renovation of various roads and school and college buildings in Kollam district and the modernisation of the KSRTC’s Kollam depot were also discussed.

Ministers, Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, Additional Chief Secretaries, department secretaries and directors and senior officials were present.
