The Congress will move the Supreme Court against the “impractical” Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kerala, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph, MLA, has said.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Mr. Joseph said the death of booth level officer Aneesh George should be an eye-opener for the Election Commission of India. The Congress had urged the State government to initiate legal action against the SIR at an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Congress has decided to move the court as the State government had not yet done it.

Mr. Joseph also called for an impartial probe into the death of Aneesh. In a statement here, he alleged that Aneesh had taken the extreme step following threats by the CPI(M).

Mr. Joseph alleged that the CPI(M) had threatened Aneesh that a complaint would be filed against him for distributing pamphlets accompanied by a Congress booth level agent (BLA). Stern action should be taken against the individual responsible for the BLO’s death, Mr. Joseph said.
