Schools Holiday: Schools in these states closed today; check list

The Jammu division’s School Education Department has declared a holiday for all government and private schools on Monday (August 18)  in response to adverse weather conditions, as per an official release. A cloudburst on Sunday led to flash floods and landslides in multiple areas of Kathua. Rescue teams are actively working to recover trapped things in the affected zones.

“In view of the inclement and bad weather conditions, it is hereby ordered that All Govt. as well as Private Schools of Jammu Division shall remain closed for tomorrow i.e. 18.8.2025,” read the release posted on microblogging site, X by School Education Department J&K.

Karnataka

The district administration has announced a holiday on Monday for schools and Anganwadi centres across five taluks—Mudigere, Kalasa, Koppa, Sringeri, and Narasimharajapura—as well as five hoblis within Chikkamagaluru taluk. This decision was taken in wake of IMD’s red alert for heavy rain in the two districts, as reported by various local media reports.

Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegade has also declared a holiday for all schools and colleges across the district. Similarly, Hassan Deputy Commissioner K.S. Lathakumari has announced a holiday for Anganwadi centres, as well as primary and high schools in Sakaleshpur and Belur taluks, along with those located in K. Hoskote hobli of Alur taluk.

Kerala

Heavy rainfall and strong winds continued to lash several regions of Kerala with India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, and a yellow alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad on Monday. Although no official alert has been issued for Thrissur district, all educational institutions there will remain closed on Monday owing to the unfavorable weather. District Collector Arjun Pandyan stated that the quarterly school examinations, originally set to begin on Monday, have been postponed. A new schedule will be announced soon.

Chandigarh

All educational institutions in Chandigarh are also expected to remain shut on Monday, August 18. The announcement was made by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during the 79th Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Regular academic and administrative operations will resume on Tuesday, August 19.
