Schoolgirl injured after falling off bus in Kochi

A 16-year-old girl sustained injuries after falling from a moving private bus in Kochi on Wednesday. Glancy Maria, a Plus One student of Government Higher Secondary School for Girls, Ernakulam South, has been admitted to a private hospital after sustaining head and facial injuries. The condition of the girl is said to be stable.

The Ernakulam Town North police took the bus driver into custody following the accident.

The incident occurred around 8.30 a.m. near the Vaduthala bridge. The girl, who was standing near the doorway of the private bus, fell from the vehicle as its hydraulic door remained open.

The accident comes close on the heels of a massive drive by the Motor Vehicles department (MVD), in collaboration with the police, in the city to curb traffic violations by private buses. A number of cases were reported during the drive for operating buses with doors left open.
