Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan has written to the State Election Commission, requesting an extension of the deadline for including all names in the voters’ list for the upcoming local body elections.
After the voters’ list had been published on July 23, the Election Commission had given time only till August 7 for including additional names in the list.
Online processes such as adding new names to the list, corrections and moving a voter’s name from one ward to another have witnessed continuous disruption in many places due to technical issues. Several instances of the State Election Commission’s website becoming unresponsive have been reported, preventing people from completing the process.
As the deadline for entering the names in the voters’ list approaches, matters are getting further complicated, Mr. Satheesan pointed out .
Because of these glitches, many people have not been able to add their names to the list. There is also the situation that the names of many people who had voted in the last election are now found missing in the current voters’ list, Mr. Satheesan pointed out.
In the current circumstances, the last date for adding names to the voters’ list should be extended by another 15 days, Mr. Satheesan requested in his letter to the State Election Commission.
