A dispute over seat allocation led Congress workers in Manjeswaram to lock the party office and remove its furniture and equipment, and vacate the premises.
The row erupted over seat-sharing in Manjeswaram, Badajae and Kunjathur divisions of Manjeswaram block panchayat. In the previous local body elections, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had contested in two of these seats and the Congress in one. This time, however, the District Congress Committee decided to hand over all three seats to the IUML.
Reportedly upset over the transfer of seats, workers led by the Congress Mandalam president removed the furniture and locked the office.
