The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the District Police Chief (Kozhikode city) on a recent incident in which a youth who was riding triple on his motorcycle was allegedly beaten up by a sub-inspector from the Beypore police station.
The commission also registered a case based on media reports related to the alleged assault and asked the senior police officer to submit his report in 15 days. The case would be considered at the commission’s next sitting in Kozhikode on July 29.
The alleged incident took place at the Beypore police station last week. There were reportedly four police officers, including the sub-inspector, at the time of the suspected manhandling on the 20-year-old youth.
Following an internal investigation report on the incident, the accused police officer was transferred from the Beypore police station. Sources said the internal investigation was carried out under the leadership of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. CCTV visuals had also been examined to verify the allegations, they added.
