Subhash Chandran, the UDF candidate in Ward 27 of the Eloor municipality in Ernakulam.

Subhash Chandran, who faced a near-death experience in an accident at the Guna Caves in Kodaikanal, an incident that inspired the blockbuster Malayalam movie Manjummel Boys, is testing his electoral luck in this local body polls. He is contesting from Ward 27 of the Eloor municipality as the Congress candidate. It was on September 3, 2006, that he went to the Guna Caves along with his nine friends from Manjummel. He fell into a deep pit while crossing a crevice. A heart-wrenching rescue act led by his friend Siju David had brought him back to life. “I have been active in social and welfare activities in Manjummel for many years and feels that my candidature is an extension of such works,” says Mr. Chandran, whose family has been active supporters of the Congress for long.
