The proposed Kendriya Vidyalaya project in the six acres identified at Thengode in Thrikkakara municipality remains caught in red tape.
Bureaucratic and technical hurdles had delayed the project, though the Union government had allotted a Kendriya Vidyalaya to Kerala in 2019. The Thrikkakara municipality had agreed to provide 3.6 hectares of its land at Pazhangadchal, Thengode, for setting up the school. The municipal council had earmarked ₹4 crore towards the reclamation of the land.
Hibi Eden, MP, said the project could take off once the Revenue and Agriculture departments issued necessary clearances related to the land. He added that the municipal authorities had written to the taluk surveyor, Kanayannur taluk, in April 2025, seeking steps to prepare the revenue survey sketch of the land.
He said the project could not be delayed, especially after the CMI Church had agreed to provide around 20 cents close to the identified site free of cost, which would enable better access to the project site.
The district administration had informed the Land Revenue Commissioner on June 27, 2023, that the six-acre land at Thengode was suitable for the project. However, the municipality required nod from the Revenue department as the land was mentioned as ‘puramboke kulam’ (pond) in the basic tax register. The letter said the nature of the land had to be converted into puramboke as part of initiating the project.
Thrikkakara municipal chairperson Radhamani Pillai said the project had not taken off as expected, despite the council deciding to allot the land and even provide around ₹4 crore for its reclamation. The technical hurdles had to be cleared at the government level, she added.
