The Thiruvananthapuram Special Vigilance Court deferred to June 21 the hearing of a petition seeking a comprehensive Vigilance probe against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar into allegations of illegal accumulation of wealth and misuse of power.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau had earlier submitted a preliminary inquiry, which found no cognisable offence that necessitated further investigation. However, a public interest litigant argued that the investigation was not conducted in an impartial or thorough manner.

The petitioner levelled allegations of bias, citing that the inquiry was carried out by officers subordinate to the ADGP. Besides, key allegations pertaining to the purchase of land in Pattom and a flat in Kowdiar were not investigated properly, he claimed.
