The police suspect that short circuit led to a house catching fire at Kombodinjal, near Adimaly, in Idukki on Saturday evening. According to the police, four of a family were found dead in the gutted house. The victims were identified as Subha, 39, her children, Abhinand, 9, Abhinav, 5, and Subha’s mother, Ponnamma, 75.
Idukki Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Jilson Mathew said the house might have caught fire on Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday. “While the body of five-year-old Abhinav was identifiable, the bodies of three others were found charred beyond recognition. The house is situated in an isolated place,” said the officer.
He said that after the forensic examination, the bodies were shifted to Idukki Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. “The reason behind the deaths can be confirmed only after getting the post-mortem results,” said Mr. Mathew.
The police have also ruled out the possibility of suicide. “As of now, we have not received any evidence indicating suicide,” said the officer.
