Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two railway stations upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme under the Southern Railway Thiruvananthapuram division, along with 103 other stations across the country, on Thursday.
In the Thiruvananthapuram division, Chirayinkeezhu and Kulitturai (in Kanyakumari) Amrit stations will be inaugurated through videoconferencing.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme launched in December 2022 by the Ministry of Railways aims at transforming over 1,300 stations into modern hubs with multimodal integration and future-ready facilities. The foundation stones for these works at different stations were laid between August 2023 and February 2024.

Upgraded at ₹7.036 crore, the Chirayinkeezhu station has been modernised with an aesthetic arch, improved waiting halls, shelters, public information system displays and facilities for differently abled, providing a better travel environment.
The redeveloped and upgraded Chirayinkeezhu railway station is more spacious and passenger-friendly with modern amenities.
Situated near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in Kaniyakumari, Kulitturai station has been upgraded at ₹5.35 crore and caters to coastal commuters and pilgrims.
Ceremonial functions will be held at all the 103 Amrit stations. Competitions and cultural programmes will be held for students. The inauguration by the Prime Minister will be live streamed from 10.30 a.m. at all stations.
