After a long wait, work on the much-anticipated Pampa Rivervalley project is finally set to begin with the State government launching the first phase of tourism development works at Maniyar.
According to Ranni MLA Pramod Narayan, the project will come up on a 12-acre site near the Maniyar reservoir, close to Vadasserikkara. Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas will inaugurate the project on August 11. The site is located en route to Gavi, a popular ecotourism destination.
The project, planned in three phases, is being developed at a cost of ₹15 crore. “We have now begun work on the initial phase, which has a sanctioned ₹5 crore,” Mr. Narayan said.
The delay in starting the project was mainly due to a hold-up in obtaining permission for construction on land owned by the Irrigation department. This issue was resolved by revising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to secure the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) for construction.
The project will be implemented under the supervision of the Tourism department, with the Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company Ltd. (KEL), a public sector undertaking, executing the works.
The first phase includes the construction of a footpath overlooking the reservoir, a landscaped garden, children’s play area, fitness centre, bicycle track, food kiosks, seating areas, ample parking facilities, among other amenities.
Mr. Narayan said the project is expected to pave the way for the overall development of Maniyar and Vadasserikkara, two villages nestled in the hilly regions of Pathanamthitta district. The famed Perunthenaruvi waterfalls are also located close to the project site.
