The Pallivasal grama panchayat in Idukki has set up a ‘fort model’, the latest initiative under the ‘take-a-break project.
Its earlier designs under the project modelled on Munnar rail service and low-floor bus have been a success.
Panchayat officials said the fort model had been set up at Pothamedu, near Pallivasal, in Munnar.
Panchayat president Pratheesh Kumar V.G. said Pallivasal was one of the emerging tourist spots in the Munnar hill station. “The fort model has been set up at an estimate of ₹28 lakh,” he said.
“A cafeteria, viewpoint, and toilet complex are there in the fort model building. From the viewpoint, tourists can have a view of the Chokramudi hills,” he said.
Mr. Kumar said the panchayat was planning more such initiatives under the project to attract tourists to Munnar, there by increasing income of the panchayat and creating more job opportunities.
“The panchayat has completed six tourism projects, which include fort model, Munnar monorail model, Munnar rail model, low floor bus model, watch tower, and she lodge,” said Mr. Kumar.
“We are receiving good feedback from tourists. They wish to spend time and take selfies at the take-a-break buildings,” he said.
Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh inaugurated the ‘fort model’ at Pallivasal on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the project, the Minister said the government would immediately implement a project at Munnar to change the hill tourism destination into a fully clean destination.
