The Kerala School Sports and Games 2025 will be held on the lines of the Olympics in Thiruvananthapuram from October 21 to 28.

Kochi had hosted the first Olympics model games last year.

Nearly 20,000 students will take part in the games, which will be held in three categories – under 14, 17, and 19 categories. Children with special needs will also participate in the games, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil said at a press conference here on Thursday.

In 12 stadiums

The day-and-night games will be held in 12 stadiums in Thiruvananthapuram city and nearby areas.

The Central Stadium in the city will be the main venue. Temporary indoor stadiums will be built in the stadium and 12 popular events will be held here. Nearly 6,000 students are expected to take part in the events at the Central Stadium.

A number of events will be organised by the General Education department in the run-up to the school games. A colourful procession will be held a week before the games. A march past will be held in which the students will take part as well as a torchlight rally in which international sportspersons and talents will participate.

The torchlight procession will begin from Maharaja’s College, the venue in Kochi last year, and concludes at this year’s main venue, the Central Stadium. Street plays and flash mob will be included in the procession.

Flag hoisting, theme song, brand ambassador, goodwill ambassador, promo video, and games logo will be readied for the games.

Theme song

The theme song will be selected from those submitted by students. Cultural programmes will be held during the inaugural.

Nearly 4,500 students, including those with special needs, will take part in the march past to be held along with the inaugural function.

The students will be put up in 75 schools in the city. Buses of these schools and if needed, those of other schools can be used to transport students to the venues.

A huge kitchen and dining venue will be arranged at the Police Grounds, Thycaud, for the students. Kitchens will also come up at G.V. Raja Sports School; Pirappancode; St. Xavier’s College, Thumba; and Kalady.

An organising committee and 16 subcommittees have started making arrangements for the games.

Inclusive event

The inclusive sports events for children with special needs will include two more events – cricket for boys and bocce for girls.

Cricketer Sanju Samson is the brand ambassador for the games.

Mr. Anil released the promo video of the school games, and Director of General Education N.S.K. Umesh released the video of the games’ mascot, Thanku.
