Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State general secretary M.V. Govindan said here on Tuesday that neo-fascism was spreading its tentacles fast across the world.

Attempts in India to destabilise constitutional bodies and federalism were part of neo-fascism, he said in his inaugural address at a seminar organised by the Kerala High Court committee of the All India Lawyers Union as part of the 50th year of the Emergency.

He alleged that there were attempts in India to even curb the independent functioning of the judiciary. The moves by the Centre to impose restrictions on States were against federalism, he said.

Mr. Govindan said society needed to realise that neo-fascism was gaining control in the country. Efforts by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to implement the Hindutva agenda should be opposed, he said.

Advocate Thomas Abraham, who was arrested during the Emergency, was felicitated on the occasion. K. Gopalakrishna Kurup, Advocate General, inaugurated a media exhibition held as part of the event.
