In the wake of ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw requesting the allocation of a special train to assist people from Kerala stranded in northern parts of India.
In a letter sent to the Union Minister on Saturday, Mr. Suresh said that several students, migrant workers and other civilians from Kerala, especially from the southern districts, are stranded in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and surrounding northern regions due to the prevailing tension and instability in the border areas.
He urged the Union Minister to arrange a train service from New Delhi to Kollam. “In light of the current security situation and disrupted local connectivity, there is an immediate need to arrange a special train service from the New Delhi railway station to Kollam, passing through Kozhikode and Kottayam, to ensure the safe and timely repatriation of the people. This route will help those returning to the Malabar and southern regions of Kerala,” the Mavelikara MP said.
Mr. Suresh also requested the allocation of special quotas in existing long-distance trains connecting New Delhi and Kerala by adding extra sleeper and general compartments to accommodate the high volume of passengers. “This will significantly ease the burden on regular services and ensure that no student or worker is left stranded,” he added.
