A 45-year-old migrant worker from Karnataka has been taken into the custody at Kanhangad in Kasaragod, Kerala, for allegedly raping his daughter, who was later found to be pregnant.
Doctors at a Kanhangad hospital discovered the pregnancy after the 13-year-old girl was admitted on Friday morning with complaints of back pain. Suspicious of the finding, the medical team alerted the police.
Based on the girl’s statement, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and detained the accused. Officials said the man would be formally arrested after a detailed statement is recorded and produced before court.
The police revealed that the girl was raped by her father months ago and that out of fear, she had not disclosed this even to her mother.
The accused was then apprehended by the Hosdurg police.
This is the second such case reported from Kanhangad this year. In July, a similar incident came to light when a 15-year-old girl was raped by her father and later delivered a child. The accused, then residing in the Gulf, was brought back to the State by the Kerala Police.
