The Kovalam police on Monday confirmed that the death of a hotel cook two weeks ago was a case of murder.

Rajendran, the victim, was found dead on September 17 on the terrace of his sister’s house in Nedumam, near Kovalam, where he had been staying. The deceased, who used to work at a hotel in the city, had been living separately from his wife for several years. His neighbour Rajeev has been arrested in connection with the case.

The body was found to be more than two days old at the time of discovery. Suspicion arose after a doctor indicated the presence of external pressure marks on the neck, which suggested foul play. This prompted the police to initiate a detailed investigation.

The probe led the Kovalam police to Rajeev, who is accused of committing the murder over suspicion that Rajendran was having a relationship with his mother. He is suspected to have strangled the victim to death.
