The Kottayam police took into custody Sam K. George, 59, in Bengaluru on Friday on charge of strangling his second wife and dumping her body in a gorge in Idukki. The deceased was Jessy, 50, a resident of Kanakkary in Kottayam. Her decayed body was recovered from a gorge at Cheppukulam, near Udumbannoor, in Idukki, around 60 km from Kanakkary.
According to the police, Sam, an Ettumanur native, married Jessy in 1994 after his first wife left him. Following continuous quarrels, the two had been living in two floors of a house near the Ratnagiri church at Kanakkary for 15 years. On the night of September 26, Sam allegedly went to the ground floor where Jessy was staying and strangled her to death.
The next morning, Sam took the body to Cheppukulam in a car and dumped it in a gorge from the road, the police said. On September 29, a friend of Jessy intimated the police since she could not be reached over phone. A follow-up investigation revealed that Sam was in Karnataka. The police went there and took him into custody.
