Man allegedly assaulted by carol gang for seeking receipt in Ernakulam

The Chottanikkara police have booked a group of 20 people for allegedly assaulting a 62-year-old man and his wife and vandalising their properties following a dispute over a Christmas carol performance.

Thankachan C.A. of Chirappatt, Nagappadi, Kanayannur, and his wife were reportedly attacked by the gang after he demanded a receipt for the money he paid for singing carols at his home.

The alleged incident occurred around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday (December 23, 2025). According to the first information report, the accused trespassed on the complainant’s house and abused his family members before unleashing violence. The complainant allegedly lost two teeth in the attack by the first accused. The second accused allegedly hit Mr. Thankachan on his head with a drum mallet.

The accused also allegedly destroyed flower pots and vandalised gate lamps, causing a loss of ₹10,000 to the complainant.

The accused were booked under charges including house trespass, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, and obscene acts in public places.
