The Crime Branch has arrested a man in connection with derogatory social media posts made against P.P. Divya, the then vice-president of the Kannur district panchayat, in 2018.
T.K. Asif (34), a native of Cheruvannir Kunnumal in Irrikur, was taken into custody by a Crime Branch team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) M.V. Anilkumar, following instructions from Crime Branch Superintendent of Police P. Balakrishnan Nair. The accused who was hiding in Irrikur was arrested on Tuesday night.
Asif was accused of insulting P.P. Divya via social media platforms during her tenure in office. The police said several cases are pending against him at the Irrikur station. He was produced before a court in Kannur following the arrest.
