A tourist who slipped and fell in the Thooval waterfall at Nedumkandam panchayat, Idukki, on Saturday was rescued by the local residents.

The tourist was part of a four-member team who came from Madurai to visit Ramakkalmedu. The tourists, who arrived at the spot around 4 p.m., were taking photos at the waterfall’s restricted area. The man was reportedly taking a selfie near the edge of the waterfall when he lost his footing and fell. However, he managed to cling on to a rock, preventing a fatal fall.

The local people rushed to the spot after hearing the shouts of his companions. The people pulled him up to safety using a rope and other materials kept in case of emergencies in a local resident’s house. Repeated accidents have been reported in the area. They raised a demand for the appointment of a security guard at the waterfall to ensure the safety of the tourists.
